While my work ranges in style and subject matter, it always reflects that internal discourse seeking clarity and structure within the seemingly contradictory. My paintings reflect the interrelationship of shape and space, the transient and the permanent, pattern and repetition, the juxtaposition of depth and flatness. Aerial perspective and asymmetry play significant roles as well as often intense use of pigment.
Paint, sometimes applied thinly in washes combine with heavy blacks; the translucent with the solid. Objects ‘leak’ or may be defined by graphic black line. White lines repeat adjacent black lines. Shadows become objects. Shapes tumble in and out of spaces like an overturned laundry basket, allowing for a certain disparate and incongruent rhythm and flow in their repetition. Fragments entangle with fragments. The fixed and floating, the static and the fluid connect and disconnect in methodical arrangements: a state of mind.
